An Eminent Kathak Dancer, Teacher and Scholar, Guru Dr Rohini Bhate was among the senior most practitioners of the Art (Kathak Dance, Music & Literature). Born in 1924, she received training in Kathak from Guru Lachhu Maharaj ji of Luchknow Gharana and Guru Mohanrao Kalianapurkar ji of Jaipur Gharana.

With her understanding of the structure and aesthetics of talas, her flair for adaptation of oral traditions, and her analytical and innovative approach to abhinaya, Guru Dr Rohini Bhate has enriched the Kathak repertoire creating a large corpus of dance compositions: Traditional & Contemporary. A respected teacher Rohini ‘Tai’ Bhate has trained a number of dancers. Her contributions also include fifteen dance-dramas and choreography for several films and plays. She has performed in various music and dance festival / events in India & abroad.

Guru Rohini Bhate is the founder director of the Nrityabharati Kathak Dance Academy, Pune, which completed 50 years in 1997. She also has served on the various National & State level Advisory Committees in India; to name a few Kathak Kendra New Delhi, Khairagarh University etc.

...डोक्यात कसलं तरी वेड घेऊन त्यासाठी आपलं आयुष्य झोकून देणं ही गोष्ट मराठी माणसाला अपरिचित नाही. ज्ञानाच्या, कलेच्या,शिक्षणाच्या, समाजसुधारणेच्या, राष्ट्रसेवेच्या अशा निरनिराळ्या क्षेत्रांत अशा वेडानं पछाडलेल्या लोकोत्तर माणसांनी महाराष्ट्र चेतवीत ठेवला. नृत्याचं वेड घेऊन त्या कलेच्या उपासनेसाठी, जोपासनेसाठी आणि अध्यापनासाठी आयुष्यातल्या इतर सर्व गोष्टींना गौण मानून जगत आलेली रोहिणी भाटे हिचं नावही ह्या लोकोत्तर वेड्यांच्याच यादीत टाकायला हवं.

“ ता थै तक थै ” नावाच्या एका संजीवक मंत्राने तिच्या जीवनात प्रवेश केला त्या क्षणीच एक उदात्तवेड तिला लगलं. असली वेडं लागलेल्यांच्या कोशात थकवा हा शब्द नसतो. वार्धक्य तर नसतंच नसतं. कालिदासानं म्हंटल्याप्रमाणं
